Helping a multiple branch operation with ‘CaliPro’ Software.

One of the longest established calibration firms in the UK is expanding its branch network of service centres, thanks in no small part to the integration of CaliPro Software to their management systems.

Established in 1879, D Brash & Sons of Glasgow originally serviced the local coal trade, but today, this family run business with over 125 years of experience in supplying, calibrating and maintaining weighing equipment, has nine sites spread across the UK, ensuring a full nationwide service.

Gavin Millar, Brash operations manager, commented:

“CaliPro has allowed us to establish a fully integrated process-flow, from the initial customer enquiry, through to monitoring job progress and eventual invoicing. It gives our staff and engineers a set working practice that provides relevant information to individual needs, related directly to their responsibilities within the organisation. That could be field engineers, service engineers, office administrators, accounts clerks, through credit control, to branch managers and directors.

“With confidence in our admin structure, this has allowed us to set up additional branch locations and employ staff, all with the minimum of training, since everyone knows or is trained on our CaliPro management systems.

“It gives us a consistent approach to how we handle our workload, with managers able to monitor specific schedules to ensure engineers make the best of their working day. Callouts are therefore efficient, and we are finding that employee satisfaction is that much higher because days are better organised and go that much quicker.

“Customers have noticed vast improvements in our maintenance regimes, with certificates issued on their own branded portals within hours rather than days, accessible at any time for checking or at audit time.

Brash has ISO9001 and UKAS ISO17025 accreditation, so can readily advise customers on providing the best equipment for their needs and then, their servicing and maintenance requirements, helping establish the best control regime to exceed the standards expected within their own industry.

Brash have an unequalled range of weighing products available for sale or hire – with major clients in the Aerospace, Pharmaceutical, Medical, Food, Drink, Logistics and Livestock sectors. Having an efficient admin system across branches means Brash can respond to nationwide enquiries in under 24 hours, delivering an engineer or equipment to suit. Once a relationship is established, they work closely with customers to ensure maintenance and calibration schedules are planned as needed. This ensures breakdowns and downtime of production lines are kept to the absolute minimum.

Gavin added:CaliPro’s face-to-face training and online customer support has been fantastic, meaning the majority of our staff picked up the system in a surprisingly short timeframe with no major disruption to our business in moving over from our old database and spreadsheet systems. Our staff then train new recruits!

CaliPro has been a revolution to us, helping keep track of all assets over the branches, while giving superb overview of engineer, branch and company performance. It has certainly made running a bigger, multi-site business, easier. Something we can rely on as we aim to grow the business even more,” stated Gavin.

Owen Jones, Managing Director of CaliPro, added:

“The remarkable growth and efficiency Brash Scales has already achieved truly underscores the power of a calibration management solution precisely tailored to their evolving needs, backed by our unwavering support and a shared commitment to continuous improvement. We’re incredibly proud to partner with this forward-thinking industry leader, witnessing firsthand how CaliPro empowers their expanding team and enhances their customer experience nationwide. Here’s to continued shared success and ongoing innovation together!”

CaliPro: Streamlining MWS Asset Management

We heard from one of the early adopters of CaliPro Software about how it has helped transform their business.

MWS manufactures and supplies a huge range of weighing equipment solutions and offers a nationwide maintenance and calibration service to a wide range of industries from their bases in Leicestershire and County Durham.

CaliPro Software is now an integral part of their engineers’ toolkit, offering fingertip control of asset management, in the office or on the client’s site, even without an internet connection.

Gary Pook is MWS Service Manager, and commented:

“I’ve been familiar with CaliPro software for several years now and had no hesitation in recommending it to MWS when I moved here. After being tailored specifically to suit our needs, the system has been in use for well over a year and is exceeding all our expectations.”

Our engineers love it since it allows them to plan ahead, provide preventative maintenance and only inspect client weighing equipment as needed, and at the right time intervals. Outside of unexpected breakdowns, this means minimal downtime for the customer’s equipment and once our engineers leave site, their calibration work is complete, leaving them free to go straight onto the next client with no one waiting for paperwork.”

Our office staff appreciate the clear and easy manner of checking the equipment data, allowing them to issue works orders or invoices as appropriate.

CaliPro software gives a direct connection between our clients, their equipment, the field engineers, then, our workshops and offices. We like to think (indeed, we have been told), that their production and operating capacity is therefore increased as a result.”

Significant unseen time savings are achieved and clients now have their ISO9001 documentation on the day and UKAS certificates within 24 hours. Previously engineers would spend a day a week updating certification and distributing to clients.

All certificates are uploaded to the MWS online portal for easy retrieval, including up-to-date weight certificates, company insurance documents, health & safety policies, risk assessments and method statements. Customers love it because they not only receive email certificates immediately, but via their own personal log-in, can access their data at any time, which is ideal at audit time.

Adele Tilley-Jones, Director at CaliPro Software Ltd., “We’re excited to work with a growing company that has a clear vision of how bespoke software can really benefit their business and customers. We look forward to working closely with MWS to develop the CaliPro Calibration Management System further, helping them to provide a first-class service to all of their customers.

MWS can count themselves as one of the only UK-based suppliers of weighing scale companies that can design, manufacture, install and maintain weighing equipment – a beginning-to-end supply process. Discover more here: https://www.mws.ltd.uk/
